Miniature porcelain church:
In front of you are pictures of a detailed replica of a real church. It is a hand-crafted and faithfully processed porcelain model of one of the well-known churches in Moravia. Our porcelain churches are part of brand line that includes over 80 miniature houses found in Prague. From them you can build the Old Town Square, the Golden Lane or even a part of the Lesser Town.

How it comes about:
The basic model is made in scale according to the actual model. Then it’s converted in an elaborate way into a form, from which we obtain individual parts by casting porcelain mass. After assembling, retouching, drying and firing, careful and detailed revising begins again. This process is followed by hand painting with several layers of glaze and another firing at 1200 ° C. Last task is the final decor and firing in the kiln. It is a unique and sophisticated technique of creating models with the theme of historic churches. You can see the result in front of you…

The goal:
Our aim is to capture the beauty of architecture in the imprint of ceramic clay and to transfer a piece of this poetry to your homes. It is a nice and valuable reminder of visiting Bohemia.

This product is made based on The Pilgrimage church of St. John of Nepomuk, which can be found at this address:
Green Mountain, 591 02 Zdar on Sazava, Czech Republic

History of The Pilgrimage church of St. John of Nepomuk:
As a response to the scheduled sanctification of the blessed John of Nepomuk the abbot of Zdar Monastery decided to build a church dedicated to him. There was a historical relationship between the saint and this monastery, founded by the monks of Nepomuk in 1252. The construction works commenced in 1720, with consecration talking place there just two years later. The architect Santini built a temple on the mountain overlooking the old monastery, incorporating foundation shaped like a five-pointed star. Number 5 serves as a reminder to the five stars which, according to legend, appeared on the surface of the Vltava River where John drowned. The church is surrounded by cloister in the shape of a ten-pointed star, which offers shelter from bad weather to pilgrims. There is a relationship between the stars. The ten-pointed Marian star symbolises the bond between the present monastery and the abolished monastery in Nepomuk symbolised by five-pointed star. Eight-pointed star are related to the Cistercian order and others are to be found in the decoration of the building. The mystical elements of the building were discussed from the very beginning. The pentagram appears here not less than 72 times, 72 representing the number of God’s names according to the kabbalah. The pentagram is also a protective sign against powers of evil. In the centre of the building, directly in the dome, there is a tongue - symbol of John, the martyr of the secret of the confession. The Gothic elements remind us of St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague, the eternal source of Santini’s inspiration and also the place where the saint was buried. The whole sanctuary appears to be very delicate and light, in spite of its thick walls. The genius of the architect lifts the mass walls to the celebration of the light of the spirit. There is no need for ornamental decoration or Baroque frescos here. The idea is expressed by the impact the light has in the space of the church. Cooperation between the ingenious architect and the extraordinary personality of the abbot Vejmluva, which lasted for almost two decades, resulted in a number of other original buildings around the monastery. Santini’s masterpiece - the pilgrimage church of St. John of Nepomuk, was in 1995 included in the World Cultural Heritage list of UNESCO.
